Doctor Criticized for Remotely Euthanizing a Patient After Only One Virtual Consultation

A Canadian Doctor is under scrutiny for euthanizing a Toronto patient remotely through the healthcare program “Canada Cares On Wheels”, a mobile clinic that runs 24/7 with remote access to Doctors across Canada. Dr. John Money, located in Vancouver, had never met the Torontonian patient before her virtual consultation with him, and after reading her past medical history, and nearly-perfect bloodwork results, he authorized the “machine” to euthanize her. Pictured below, while not the exact robot that euthanized his patient, is said “machine”.
Named “ReMeDi”, the robot comes equipped with a camera to act as a doctor’s eyes, and a screen for the patient to see the doctor. Inside the machine is a vending machine of pharmaceutical drugs, that can be dispensed when signed off by a doctor remotely. It is also programmed with the ability to check for vital signs, and the ability to euthanize.
The consultation’s recording can be viewed below. The euthanized patient’s voice, and name has been muted as requested by the family. Timestamps for the conversation with the nurse, and doctor, are located in the video.
The patient did not specifically choose Dr. John Money. The mobile clinic matches the patient to any Doctor that is available at the time of the appointment. The nurse who checked the patient in was also outsourced. The nurse, Ishani, lives in Ontario, Canada. The picture below shows the inside of the mobile clinic that allows patients 24/7 access to any participating doctor across Canada.
*Note: Doctor Money is wearing a coat with a Kraft logo stitched onto it. Public Canadian doctors have designated ad spaces on their coats that are generally used by corporations to help fund the healthcare system. Kraft Foods Inc., Nestlé, Coca-Cola, and others are the biggest donors of the aptly named “Canada’s Doctor’s for Optimal Health Program”.
